Au Revoir NZ

Tonight I start my big adventure! I am 99% excited and 1% anxious, which is a pretty good ratio if you ask me! It still seems so unreal, I can't believe that tomorrow I will be in my birthplace. That's another thing, for the first time in 16 years I will be celebrating my birthday in the place I was born, and in summer! Get ready to be jealous of my sun-bleached hair and tanned limbs! Woohoo! I went today to get a haircut and get my eyelashes done, so I am ready to hit the beach in style. Travelling is always a stress for the  fashion conscious, and I must admit my suitcase is a bit heavier than I was planning, but, alas, the wonderful USA allows you not only 23kg as opposed to 20kg in other countries, but you can bring TWO suitcases!!! I only have one at the moment, but my shopping may need a bit more room on return.

Then there's the issue of the immense amount of time I am about to spend squished into a tiny, claustrophobic airplane seat, and what to wear while enduring it.
At the moment I am planning on wearing:

  • leggings (what's comfier?)
  • long sleeve striped cotton tee
  • lightweight grey cardigan
  • woolly/furry gilet (for aesthetic reasons only, to counteract the leggings :))
  • my trusty white chucks
I better go check my packing list another 10 times!
Not long now!!!

With droopy lids and shaking hands

Don't you just love it when you think you have a whole week to finish an assessment, and at 10 o'clock at night getting ready for bed, you realise it's actually due tomorrow? (Well, today now) As you may have guessed, that happened to me a couple of hours ago, and I am currently having a short break (my timer is set so I don't fall asleep) so thought I would check in. I just want to say I really love Garance Dore, she is a genius, and also I am incredibly jealous of Weronika of Raspberry and Red, because she is the same age as me, yet has a successful blog, such style I can only dream of, and seems to have a natural beauty and poise comparable to Audrey Hepburn. And here I am with frizzy hair, dirty laundry and a barely started assessment at 3 in the morning. Oh well, time for the next caffeine installment, hmm diet coke or coffee? Oh my glamorous life.

Save me now, sweet Paris

I work in a french cafe. I am lucky to have the job and my bosses are nice and blah blah blah... The truth is while I am serving people coffees, I really wish I could just drink them, while I am popping a croissant into a bag for a customer, I want to devour it. And preferably do these things in France, rather than in a french cafe. I had two nights in Paris in January and oh was it bliss. I was giddy with excitement the whole time, and looking back now, probably scared all the composed parisians to death with my unstopppabale perma-grin. Oh well! All I had to do was step out of my hotel and watch all the effortlessly chic girls, the suave men and drool over the fresh pastries, and smell the amazing coffees that were somehow sweet of there own account, non non, the French do not need sugar.

Countdown to excitement

Well first, next weekend is my school ball! (NZ's equivalent to prom) Got an absolutely amzing dress, some comfy shoes, hair and make-up appoinments, no date (and I'm perfectly happy with that) and I am ready to go!! Also sorted for the pre-ball and afterball, just need to find something to wear afterballing. So that's what everyone is talking about, but secretly, I'm not really that fussed, because, after the ball is over, in the school holidays, I AM GOING TO NEW YORK!!! By myself!! To do a fashion course!! OMG!!
So yeah, for me that's slightly more exciting.
I am doing a 3 week precollege course at FIT, in Fashion Forecasting and Styling, I am staying with some lovely family friends in NJ, and well, just being in the beautiful city where I was born is amazing. Already google mapped all the shops and cafes I want to go to, by the time I leave I am going to be so pro at swiping my metro card.
With travel also comes expenses though, so I have started a weekend job at the french cafe down the road, et son travail acharne ma cherie!
Just going to get a cup of coffee as I'm feeling slighlty light headed and peruse a few of my favourite blogs.

One Direction and Jack Wills

Ok, so the past weekend was one of the most exciting weekends of my life, because One Direction was in the country!! The concerts (yes, I went to both!!) were absolutely amazing, but I think I was the only one screaming for the awesome tour videos that played. The reason I was so excited about them is because I absolutely adore Jack WIlls and the promo videos they make, and the 1D vids were extremely influenced by these!! It was seriously just like the boys had become JW models, and seriously, that is like my dream come true!!

Anyway, the three luckiest girls in the world got to feature in the autumn video with the boys and I want to take a closer look at the clothes they were wearing.

They are all wearing turtle-neck tops, a look that hasn't been 'in fashion' since I was about 5, but I think it looks super cute and am tempted to try it myself this winter.

Two of the girls are wearing shorts over tights, also a look that hasn't been around for a while but also works perfectly with the overall image.

This girl was wearing daring red tights, with fur trimmed uggs, grey shorts, turtle neck jumper and eclectic stripey cardigan.
The blonde amongst the three was wearing semi-formal  shorts with nothing under (brrr!)  a turtle neck jumper with a cute blazer, knee-high white socks and short caramel uggs. Her hair was just-woke-up tousled ala Jack Wills.

Hermione lookalike anyone?? Well, she is with Harry.(ignore my terrible jokes)
I love this girls wild curly hair (haha not because I have curls of anything) and this seems like a good time to say I love the hat she is wearing and would quite like to add it to my hat collection. The scarf also has an adorable hand-knit look about it. She is wearing a crew neck vintage style multi colour jumper with red shorts and cream tights, with a black tailored jacket on top and black leather bootie style shoes.

This picture shows all of the girls accessories really well. I love the powder puff ear muffs, and the red satchel, and of course, my fetish for vintage bikes makes this whole scene kinda drool worthy (nothing to do with the 5 super hot guys prancing around).
I love this video because I find it really interesting to see  what the boys stylist would do with girls, and it is a pleasant mixture of expected and unexpected. It follows the cute, preppy style of the guys but with a feminine and unique twist. A++

I would also like to say that I have still failed to find cute preppy clothes in NZ, but recently received my JW Gilet!!!! Yeahhhh Buddieee!!
